Choosing the Right Wedding DJ

One of the most important aspects of your wedding day is enjoying a real celebration with friends and family. Looking back on your special day, you want each guest to say, “That wedding was awesome! I’ve never had so much fun!” As a DJ, we feel largely responsible for ensuring great memories that last a lifetime. After all, the music and entertainment is what truly sets the atmosphere of the reception. This makes choosing your wedding DJ one of the most important decisions in the wedding planning process.

To help with this decision, we’ve compiled a few of the things you should keep in mind to make sure you’ve got the right DJ for the task.

Four Things to Remember When Looking For a Wedding DJ:

1. Meet with Multiple DJs– Interview a few, 3 to 5, DJs before making a decision. Make sure the DJ’s personality works with yours and is what you are looking for. An upbeat DJ is important to get the party started and to keep it going!
2. Ask For Referrals– Ask your friends, wedding venues, co-workers and even reception halls for references and recommendations about local wedding DJs.
3. Ask Questions– During your meeting with potential DJs, find out how extensive their music library and whether or not they will be the actual person deejaying the event. Some other important information to be sure to gather is if they are available for overtime, where they will set up their system, and if they would like to eat at the wedding. Do not forget to ask the DJ what attire will be for the reception, many will come in a tuxedo, but you do not want to chance it! The more information you gather, the more informed your final decision will be.
4. Contract– Make sure you have a contract in writing detailing the finalized decisions you and your DJ made. Your wedding is an exceptionally significant day; you do not want to leave anything to chance.
